About our partnership project:
We – Heidi from Lower Austria and Michaela from Vienna – took the decision to import the first Royal Persian Angora Chinchillas to Austria. Michaela was already interested in the Royal Persian Angora Chinchillas years before and so it didn´t fail that after the long during friendship, Heidi was also set in fire with the chinchilla-virus. For those, who say “why didn´t they say anything"– we don´t say anything because till the day when we picked them up from the airport, we were not sure that everything will be OK - and we don´t want to have a disappointment for ourselves. So we didn´t say anything and worried about the chinchillas and hoped that they will arrive in good condition. That was a very strained time for us - but also a time where our friendship became more and more deep (if this is possible).
All official handlings and arrangements were done by Heidi, on the weekends Michaela carried informations about import regulations and continuing requirements, futher for possibilities to make the long trip as comfortable as possible for our Chinchillas and to take care of medical precaution. At last but not least Michaela created a homepage for our Royal Persian Angora Chinchillas.
What do we do now – or will we do in future?
Now we own the first Angora Chinchillas and we take care, that they are well. First time we will enjoy their look and we will take care of them as good as our long-established Chinchillas. If or when we will have Royal Angora Chinchilla Babies or to whom we will give one, we will decide when time is ripe. But it´s a fact that we will breed Royal Persian Angora Carriers and and then, if we have luck, we get the Royal Persian Angora Chinchillas in several colours. It´s especially important for us to capture the
fact, that we guarantee that no chinchilla which is born in our homes is breed by inbreeding. We have planned and employed an
adequate number of partners so that we can ensure that our babys are free of inbreeding.
Information - the most couples of our generation 2008 are angora carrier x angora carrier. Therefore it will take about 5 to 15
weeks till we can be quite sure if the babies from them are angora, angora carriers or maybe “normal” chinchillas. So the
correct mutation name you can find on our homepage when we are absolutely sure.
It is also a fact that we will not support that this mutation will find the way to incompetent increasers and that the Royal Persian Angora Chinchillas will be sold to dumping prices. Sporadically we will sell babies to chinchilla owners and breeders to certain terms, which will sperately be arranged. The babies will be registered in two independent breeding associations and probably they will be earmarked or tattooed!
You must be carefully if Chinchillas are offered under the title Royal Persian Angora Chinchilla because in some cases this are Chinchillas with a little bit longer hair - but this is a deficit of our usual Chinchillas and neither a criterion for a Royal Persian Angora Chinchilla nor for our usual Chinchillas. We don´t make or encourage the mixture of the Royal Persian Angora Chinchillas to our usual Chinchillas. In addition – if somebody wants any information if ebony angora is possible or not, please contact laurie@chinchillas.com for unobjectionable clarification. Because of the babies we already have till now we can surely confirm that at least ebony angora carriers are possible.
At last … we quite know, that there will be envy and mistrust - but we don´t keep from doing and living our dream. But for all who are lucky with us – you are welcome to participate to our dream !
